Talks between the Ontario Nurses Association and the Ontario Hospital Association broke off last week, with nurses pointing to the Ford Government's new law that caps public sector wage increases to one per cent.
But the union claims that it's not only hampering the collective bargaining process, it's also an attack on women.
In a release, the union says, "It is clear that this government is targeting public-sector workers who are female for wage suppression. It has exempted those in male-dominated professions, such as firefighters and police, from the effect of the bill."
The union represents approximately 60,000 registered nurses and health-care professionals.
The two sides will head to arbitration on March 25th, in hopes of overcoming their differences.
It's worth saying that the nurses are an essential service, so they are not allowed to strike.
