The Toronto District School Board now says almost 300 full-time positions have been cut or are in the process of being cut ahead of classes starting, in an update to board members ahead of a meeting Wednesday.
The report is an update on the budget changes from the Ford Government from earlier this year, with savings of almost $47 million.
The cuts don't involve teachers, but do include principals, vice-principals, support staff, psychologists, custodians and others, mostly through attrition but also layoffs.
For example, in learning centres K to 12 coaches will be from 69 reduced to 40, while guidance counsellor position will go from 84 to 69.
In Facilities, there will be a reduction of 52 caretakers and there's also transportation changes, such as the elimination of TTC tokens for high school students in French Immersion and Extended French, as well as those for Gifted program students.
"A significant area of budget reduction — approximately $17 million — was made to central and Learning Centre staff. The budget reductions mean a smaller Senior Team, fewer Coordinating Principals and reductions in academic, business, operations and professional support services staff," the report says.
