Peel Regional Police have charged a 15-year-old girl under the Youth Criminal Justice Act after her newborn daughter's body was located near her home in Brampton.
Officers were called in to investigate on Friday when the girl went to hospital. She had reportedly given birth to the child three days earlier.
"It's an ongoing investigation," Peel Media Relations officer Bancroft Wright told NEWSTALK1010. "The charge is indicated as indignity to a body and concealing the body of a child."
Despite the teenager not having been charged with murder, homicide investigators remain on the case.
"This falls under their mandate and that's why homicide is investigating at this time," Wright said.
The girl's name cannot be released due because of her age. She appeared in court for a bail hearing on Saturday.
"If anyone knows of any information in relation to this, of course we can't divulge the identity of the young person, but should anyone have any information in relation to this [...], contact our homicide missing persons bureau," Wright added.
