Not only is the way you shop for Christmas gifts changing, but the way people steal them is changing as well.
Police are warning about theives stealing packages left on porches in Toronto in the busy run-up to Christmas.
With more and more people shopping online, and with packages being delivered during the day, it's like shooting fish in a barrel for crooks.
"It is a risk because, essentially, it's like you leaving your iPad on the front step and hoping someone is not going to take it if they happen to see it." says Constable Craig Brister.
He suggests working out a delivery plan, to have packaged dropped off at side or back doors, or even leaving them with neighbours who you'll know are home.
And if you are a victim of theft, you may not be 100% out-of-pocket.
"Some of these organizations have the ability to be compensated to some extent, for your loss. The other option you have is to purchase insurance so you have peace of mind in the event someone does steal it." says Brister.
Toronto Police didn't have specific numbers on this sort of theft, but Brister says he wouldn't be surprised if it's on the rise.
