They were looking for love, he was looking for money.
Toronto Police are warning people after they arrested a man for allegedly scamming people he met on the popular dating site eHarmony.
It's alleged Shaun Rootenberg, using the alias Shaun Rothberg, would go on the site to find people to defraud. He would get into relationships with them convincing them to trust him with money he was going to invest on their benefit.
That was only a ruse to get money from them. The money would not be invested, but as police said in a news release "was used to fund the man's lifestyle."
49-year-old Rootenberg of Thornhill was arrested Tuesday and charged with four counts each of Fraud over $5000, Possession of the proceeds of crime and Laundering proceeds of crime.
