The 'Global Climate Strike' movement makes its way to Toronto with a protest march that tied up downtown traffic for about 2-and-a-half hours.
Most of the faces in the enormous crowd that gathered near the steps of the Legislature belong to young people.
They say they want leaders across this country to take action on climate change.
The procession weaved down Bay Street, then south on Bay to Queen Street, west on Queen to University and then north on University Avenue back to Queens Park.
Toronto was one of 85 Canadian cities participating in the event hosted by Fridays for Future, with about 15,000 people attending in this city alone.
Thousands of protesters chanting ``System change, not climate change'' gathered outside the Ontario legislature at the start of the Toronto protest -- with one carrying a sign that read ``Every disaster movie starts with a scientist being ignored.''
16 year-old Swedish activist Greta Thunberg has become the face of the movement. She was speaking in Montreal, wher she estimated 500,000 people had gathered.
