A child has died after being injured at a Markham home Saturday evening.
York Regional Police say they were called to a residence in the Kennedy and Denison area just after 9:00 p.m., for reports of a toddler being injured by a piece of furniture falling over.
"The child was taken to SickKids Hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries," Staff Sgt. Andrew Bell told NEWSTALK1010 Sunday afternoon.
"Police attended and investigated but nothing appears suspicious," he added.
The child has been identified as a two-year-old boy.
Some reports say the piece of furniture that fell on him was a couch.
Police were unable to provide any other details. It's not known if an adult was with the boy at the time of the accident.
