The latest measure in mayor John Tory’s fight against congestion in the city is in place.
The city of Toronto has launched a new policy, putting restrictions on when utility companies can do their work downtown.
Phone, internet and cable companies can no longer block lanes of traffic for non-emergency between 7 am and 7 pm in the area bound by Lake Shore Blvd and Dundas St, from Bathurst St to Jarvis St. They can still do work in curb lanes where there is parking, between 9:30 am and 3:30 pm.
Outside of this area, work can only be done in the off-peak direction with permission from city staff.
Anyone who spots a utility company breaking these rules is asked to report it to 311.
