Toronto city officials will meet Monday to begin a safety review of the city's bike trails.
Mayor John Tory is calling for a reivew of the city's trail system after the death of a 5-year-old boy who was hit and killed by a car last Wednesday.
Xavier Morgan was hit while riding his bike westbound on the Martin Goodman Trail at Lakshore near Jameson.
Police say he fell off his bike onto the busy road where he was then hit by a car.
Tory issues a statement Sunday that said "Last week, a young boy, 5-year-old Xavier Morgan, tragically lost his life while riding his bike on the Martin Goodman Trail in an area where the trail and busy traffic are clearly too close not to pose a real danger. It is past time for us to have a hard look at safety on these trails."
On Monday Public Works chair Jaye Robinson, the City's General manager of Transportation Services Barbara Gray and her staff ill begin a safety review of Toronto's trails.
