It's out with the old and in with the new, again, at Toronto Community Housing.
After three years as interim CEO, Greg Spearn is off the job.
His departure marks the fourth for the agency since 2011.
Councillor Joe Cressy vehemently denies that Spearn was forced out, told her wouldn't be getting the job permanently. "People decide to move on for personal and professional reasons, as has happened here. For us, we need to ensure stability in the immediate."
There is an international search underway for a new CEO which will hopefully be completed in a few months. In the meantime, board vice-chair Kevin Marshman will take over on an interim basis.
Mayor John Tory emailed the following statement following today's announcement:
"I want to thank Greg Spearn for his service at Toronto Community Housing and I wish him well in his future endeavours.
TCHC residents should know I am dedicated to making sure community housing is a healthy and safe place to live.
The Tenants First Project Team is working on a plan that will bring positive change for TCHC. The 2017 federal budget included billions of dollars for social housing infrastructure and, while the details are still being worked out, I believe this will be a tremendous opportunity for TCHC to tackle its repair backlog. The City itself has invested $1 billion to fix the housing stock that was downloaded by other levels of government.
I look forward to working with the board and new interim CEO Kevin Marshman to usher in this change. Mr. Marshman has served as vice-chair of the board since 2015 and has several years of experience leading corporations including service as president and CEO of Habitat for Humanity. I am confident that Toronto Community Housing is in good hands as the search for a permanent CEO continues."
