It took almost a full year for the province's Special Investigations Unit to lay charges against a Toronto Police Constable in a shooting that happened in the parking lot of a hotel.
It was back on February 15th of 2016, when a 31-year-old was shot in the arm, while inside a vehcile. That followed an 'interaction with police', according to the SIU.
44-year-old John De Sousa was charged with careless use of a firearm, and will be in court on March 1st.
Monica Hudon with the SIU, says the officers gun was discharged in the parking lot, but she couldn't say it was accidentally.
"Because it's before the courts, I'm not able to go into any further detail." says Hudon.
Toronto Police say De Sousa has been with the Service for 15 and a half years, and was most recently on the drug squad.
There's still no information on why police were originally called, or why they were trying to pull over the vehicle in the first place.
