Toronto, Peel Region and Windsor-Essex will have to wait a few more days to learn if and when they'll be moving into Stage 3 of reopening.
Most of the province moved into Stage 3 more than a week ago.
On Friday, Premier Doug Ford said an announcement will be made on Wednesday about next steps in reopening plans.
The announcement is usually made at the start of the week, but the premier noted it was postponed so public health officials could have more time to examine the COVID-19 data.
Meantime, speaking with our media partner CP24, Mayor John Tory indicated the city is working to ensure all the necessary safety precautions are in place before moving into stage 3.
"We've been in active discussions with the province about some of these stricter measures for bars and gyms that we've talked about...we're not trying to limit people's ability to have a good time. We're simply trying to make sure that when we reopen in Stage 3, that it's done in a way that maximizes the safety, the public health of people, so that we don't have a second wave or a series of spikes which we've seen in other cities."
So, what about the $19 billion in COVID-19 relief funding cities and towns across the country are expecting from the federal government?
Mayor Tory says we may get a better idea this week of the breakdown of what Ontario will get.
"What I think we will hear this week is how much Ontario is going to be getting from the federal government. There's sort of two processes of allocation here - one from the federal government to the provinces and then one from the provinces to the cities and towns, cause it has to cover every city and town - not just Toronto. But, I'm sort of guardedly optimistic that we will be getting enough money out of all of that, that it will look after a big part of the problem we have, which is that about 1.3 billion dollars after we found 500 million dollars in savings ourselves, but it remains to be seen."
It was earlier this month that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced $19 billion in COVID-19 aid to help provinces and territories with economic reopening plans and in preparation for a possible second wave of the virus.
