Toronto city councillors have voted in favour of making the bike lanes on Bloor St a permanent fixture.
The vote was 36-to-6.
This comes after a one-year pilot project between Shaw St and Avenue Rd.
Staff had recommended keeping the lanes. In a report, they said the number of cyclists went up by 50 per cent after the lanes were added. Travel times for drivers increased by 2 to 4 minutes in the monring and afternoon rush.
The six councillors who voted against it were Stephen Holyday, Jim Karygiannis, Michael Ford, Denzil Minnan-Wong, Giorgio Mammoliti and Vince Crisanti.
