Could it be the end of smuggling booze in flasks, water bottles and paper bags to enjoy an adult beverage in Toronto parks?
At least one city councillor wants to study the feasibility of a truck selling craft beer and food at local parks. Toronto's Parks and Environment committee will vote on a proposal by councillor Mary Margaret McMahon on Friday.
McMahon was inspired by Philadelphia's Parks on Tap program.
Launched in 2016, Parks on Tap sees a temporary beer garden pop up at a different Philadelphia park for 20 weeks. People can buy and sip wine or local craft beer, eat a sandwich, lounge in a hammock or stretch out in a yoga class inside the enclosed beer garden.
Some of the proceeds from Parks on Tap are funnelled back into Philadelphia parks.
McMahon will ask Toronto city staff to report back on the idea in January.
