A major initiative has been launched by the city of Toronto to try and pursuade Raptors Forward Kawhi Leonard to stay in the city.
Mayor John Tory was joined by Superfan Nav Bhatia as they launched the online campaign this morning.
"This represents a way in which we can be passionate about getting Kawhi Leonard to stay in Toronto, but to do it in the Toronto way," said Tory, "The Toronto way says we do it quietlly, we do it in a determined way, but we make sure we all make our voice heard through something like a petition."
Bhatia went on to plead with fans to give Kawhi some space.
"Let him enjoy the city right now. Let him enjoy his privacy right now with his family and you know - just leave him alone. Let him enjoy the city," urged Bhatia.
This comes after several sightings of the NBA Finals MVP in and around the city. Fans have been posting video and photos all over social media of the basketball superstar, including images of Leonard running errands at a Home Depot.
Leonard was also photographed by fans the day after the championship parade with his family in Niagara Falls - something that was on his "bucket list" to do while in Toronto.
Tory and Bhatia are encouraging Raptors fans across the country to sign an online petition to sway Leonard to stay with the team.
Through the website, fans can leave messages for Kawhi Leonard, which Bhatia promised the basketball superstar would be given the chance to read.
"Sign on, on this website and we will make sure that all your comments, all your requests are read by him personally on his own leisure time," reassured Bhatia.
Mayor Tory added,"If the voice of the fans should be heard, which it should, then the best way to do that - the Toronto way to do that is to sign this petition and we can hopefully see him presented with thousands upon thousands of signatures and comments from people saying 'we love you, you've won the key to our hearts, you've won the championship, we want you to stay and be a part of Toronto going forward."
