Toronto police have made an arrest and laid charges against a man who stole a car, struck other vehicles and injured several pedestrians near Union Station Friday night.
Officers responded to a call for a personal injury collision in the Union Station area just after 8:20 p.m. Friday.
They allege the suspect jumped into an Uber after the driver had stopped to pick up a fare. The suspect then fled the scene, striking a number of cars being driven in the area, before getting out and fleeing on foot.
GO Transit officers pursued and arrested the man.
49 year old Kevin Garret, of Toronto, is facing multiple charges including Theft Under $5000, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Four counts of Fail to Stop at Scene of Accident, Driving While Impaired, Driving While Over 80 mgs and Driving While Under Suspension.
Garret appeared in court at Old City Hall on Saturday.
Some of the occupants of the cars involved in the collisions were injured. All injuries were minor in nature, no one went to hospital. There were no pedestrians struck in this incident.
