A 27-year-old Toronto man has been arrested and charged by the RCMP, for allegedly leaving Canada to participate in the activity of a terrorist group.
It's alleged that Pamir Hakimzadeh travelled to Turkey in 2014, to join the Islamic Group, a listed terrorist entity. Once there, he was detained by Turkish authorities and sent back to Canada.
But it was on June 27th of last year, he was arrested in Toronto and charged with uttering threats, assault causing bodily harm and assault. He was being held in custody, as the RCMP laid this new charge.
The RCMP claims that at no time was the public in danger.
Hakimzadah will appear at Old City Hall in Toronto at 10 o'clock on Thursday morning.
Neither the RCMP nor Torotno Police would tell NEWSTALK1010 what Hakimzadah did for a living or what tipped them off about the alleged terrorist activity.
The Mounties say their investigation into the man, began back in January of 2016.
