A Toronto man accused of being impaired by alcohol and marijuana when a young boy drowned during a canoe trip has been found guilty of all four charges against him.
David Sillars was found guilty today of two counts related to the impaired operation of vessel causing death, criminal negligence causing death and dangerous operation of a vessel causing death in a trial by judge alone in Oshawa.
Sillars survived when a canoe capsized on the Muskoka River in April 2017 but eight-year-old Thomas Rancourt died when he went over a waterfall.
Justice Peter West says the evidence indicated Sillars' reaction time and decision making were significantly impaired.
Sentencing submissions and victim impact statements have been set for August.
