Toronto Police confirm a call about about an alleged gunpoint-hostage taking at a King St dispensary was a hoax.
The call shut down a stretch of King St for several hours Thursday as negotiators tried to make contact with someone inside a pot dispensary. The building was empty.
Police believe the 911 call was made from a payphone near Spadina Ave and Cecil St, south of College St. They have released photos of the man they believe placed that call.
The suspect is described as man aged 25-35 with a dark complexion, medium build and standing 5’10- 6’2. He was wearing glasses a green camouflage jacket, a black baseball cap, black pants, black shoes, and was carrying a black backpack. He was riding a black vintage-style hybrid bicycle with a black rear mudguard and a wooden rear rack.
Public Safety Analyst Chris Lewis told NEWSTALK 1010's Moore in the Morning Friday anyone caught calling a hoax to police could be charged with mischief. The penalty can extend to jail time.
