Toronto police constable Patty Retsinas with the divisonal police support unit has been heading the annual winter boot drive for four year.
Retsinas says she started the drive after seeing a homeless man out in a snow storm with inappropriate shoes.
"It's such an important cause that we keep our community safe and there is such a great need for winter boots and warm clothing in the winter." Retsinas says.
This year she is teaming up with the community group Heroz 4 The Homeless, who she says have already collected a lot of clothing.
Officers and members of the community will be set up in the south parking lot of Fairview Mall (off of Sheppard Avenue East) at 9 a.m. Sunday and collecting donations until 11 a.m.
Retsinas says they are looking for any used or new clothing along with boots, hats and mittens. The items will be dropped off at various shelters for the homeless around Toronto.
Over the last four years they have raised approximately 600 pairs of boots and shoes.
Heat holders has donated 500 pairs of thermal socks to the cause. "They've been doing this for the last four years and we really appreciate that they do this." adds Retsinas.
Once at Fairview Mall Retsinas says you can enjoy some coffee and hot chocolate as well.
