About 100 people including Toronto police officers, Toronto Police Service employess and officers from other forces across the country are headed to New York City this weekend.
They are participating in the Big Apple's pride parade which is on Sunday.
Toronto officers were invited by the Gay Officers Action League in May.
In January, Pride Toronto voted to ban uniformed officers from Sunday's parade following protests from Black Lives Matter.
“We are delighted and overwhelmed by the support in New York City and that New York was able to get it right,” Toronto Police Association President Mike McCormack told CP24 Saturday morning, as he got ready to board a flight to New York. “Our wish and our hope is that Toronto organizers get it right next year.”
He also said police will still be at Sunday's parade providing security.
