Two Toronto firefighters were injured battling an overnight townhouse fire.
The two-alarm fire began in a three-storey home of a complex at 370 Hopewell Avenue,near Eglinton and
Allen Road, just after 4 a.m. Saturday morning.
Speaking to NEWSTALK 1010, Fire Chief Stefan Powell confirmed one of the firefighters was taken to hospital with unspecified injuries.
"I don't have details of the injury at this point. We've had another firefighter treated on scene and checked out by paramedics and returned to duty."
The injuries are believed to be non life-threatening.
The second firefighter was reportedly treated on scene after being overcome by heat.
Chief Powell also confirms the fire ripped through the roof of the townhouse.
"When crews arrived they found a townhouse complex with flames coming from the roof area. Crews quickly performed their primary searches and secondary searches, quickly knocking down the fire."
No one was home at the time of the fire, but crews did rescue two cats that were found under a bed of the home, a bit shaken, but not injured.
People in that one townhouse complex were evacuated, but surrounding townhouses were not.
No other injuries were reported.
The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
