Those ugly sweaters you may have gotten for Christmas will definitely come in handy today.
Toronto is waking up to very frigid temperatures this morning.
If you haven't made it outside yet, perhaps going to take the pooch for a walk or hit the stores for bargains on this Boxing Day, you're in for a rude awakening.
An extreme cold weather alert issued by the medical officer of health Monday continues today. This morning it's feeling like -25 with the windchill and it wont really let up for the balance of the day or the foreseeable future according to Environment Canada's Rhea Olsen.
" We're definitely under the influence of a dome of cold artic air and it's just going to stay in place for well a week. In fact it looks like even into early next week we'll be in this cold air mass so very cold temperatures for the next 7-10 days."
And if it feels like it's been a while since the city experienced this kind of cold, Olsen adds this kind of frigid cold hasn't gripped Toronto for some time.
"We're well below seasonal values. The highs look like they're only getting into double digits, but negative double digits so we're not even getting above -10 for the next week or so."
Olsen has some advice for those that want to head out into the great canadian outdoors and brave the cold.
"Dress in layers, it keeps you warmer and cover as much skin as you can because the real threat would be frost bite. All your winter gear you're going to need it this week."
