The day that big U.S. CEOs meet with their new president Donald Trump over concerns about his policies, politicians in Canada joined together to announce the launch of a new agency to attract investors to the GTA.
"Toronto Global" will work to improve our economy, and attract hundreds of jobs in technology, financial services and life sciences.
The goal is to attract 500 jobs by December 2018.
The politicians say the agency was in the works long before Trump made it to office, so it is not in response to the uncertainty in the U.S.
"This has been in the making for five years," says mayor John Tory. "If a regional approach that has us 'one for all, and all for one' is going to help us attract investment in light of what's going on in the U.S. or not, it's a good thing."
The federal and provincial governments, along with municipalities in the GTA, will be investing just under $20-million in Toronto Global.
