A tow truck driver was shot in his vehicle right by North York General Hospital Wednesday night, but is in stable condition.
It happened around 7:20 p.m. at Leslie St. by Highway 401 and Insp. Jim Gotell said the victim was actually able to drive himself to the nearby hospital
This comes after a rash of shootings and fires that have occurred in recent months in the GTA over an apparent turf war in the tow truck industry.
"It's far too early for me to say if there's any link to any of the other shootings that have occurred, but obviously this is going to be something that our investigators will be looking at very closely, to determine if there is a link," Gotell said to CP24.
Gotell also said the victim was shot at from another vehicle, which fled the scene.
"We actually have had someone come forward who has dash-mounted video of the shooting and the vehicle that was shooting at the tow truck," he said.
It wasn't the only shooting in the GTA either Wednesday, as around 6 p.m. a man suffered serious, but non life-threatening injuries near Oakwood Avenue and Vaughan Road.
Police say the 20-year-old victim suffered multiple lower body injuries and the search is on for a suspect, described as a black male in his 20s, wearing a white hoodie, black pants and carrying a blue bag at the time.
Meanwhile in Mississauga, at least one gun was fired in an apparent home invasion.
Peel Police received a call around 8:40 p.m. in the area of Morning Star Dr. and Brandon Gate, where three suspects went into the home all with guns, in which one was fired.
No injuries have been reported and the suspects are all believed to be in their late teens, six feet, with similar builds and reportedly left in two dark vehicles.
