A murder trial is scheduled to begin in Calgary today for a man charged following the disappearance of a couple and their grandson two years ago.
Douglas Garland was arrested after Alvin and Kathy Liknes and five-year-old Nathan O'Brien disappeared in Calgary in June, 2014.
Their bodies have not been found.
Garland faces three counts of first-degree murder in a trial before a judge and jury that's expected to last five weeks.
Nathan had been at a sleepover with his grandparents after they held an estate sale at their Calgary home, but when his mother arrived to pick him up the next morning no one was home.
Police have said there was evidence of a violent encounter in the house, but have not disclosed a motive.
