What seems to be a case of mistaken identity has thrust a diner in downtown Collingwood into the midst of a story that's churning up controversy in US politics.
Supporters of Donald Trump's press secretary are attacking The Olde Red Hen by posting angry messages and reviews on its Facebook and Yelp pages.
It isn't likely that Sarah Huckabee Sanders has ever eaten at the establishment but political partisans in the US have likely mistakenly assumed that its the same Red Hen restaurant Sanders was asked to leave last Friday.
Owner Diane Smith tells CTV News most of the negative messages seem to be coming from Americans who, to the best of her knowledge, have never been to The Olde Red Hen.
Found on The Olde Red Hen's Facebook page over the weekend were comments like:
"Hope you go out of business you liberal trash. Clean up this dump."
"I wonder how long before the Red Hen slop house folds and goes bankrupt?"
Smith says since she started getting the messages, her loyal customers have stepped up and tried to drown out the negative comments online.
However, she admits she was concerned about her business being trashed on social media because her livelihood depends on travellers finding accurate and reliable reviews online.
Facebook and the travel website both say they're deleting the comments about the news, rather than the food or service.
