The unions representing TTC workers came out of a meeting with management this afternoon using words like "disgusting" and "B.S.," but some progress has been made in their debate over air quality.
The two sides met to discuss air quality issues on the city's subway lines, which an independent study recently argued was 10 times worse than street level. The study compared the city's subway tunnels to smoggy Beijing.
The TTC and unions have agreed to work together to hire a third party to do a full air quality test on the system, the first since 1995.
But the unions say they need other measures in place in the meantime.
They have been pushing for allowing all workers to wear masks on the subway system, something TTC CEO Andy Byford has said is unnecessary and would send the wrong impression to riders.
Byford has also questioned what benefit paper masks would have, while the unions insist it would be helpful.
