The TTC is working to deal with a problem that sent a hunk of metal flying through the window of a seniors' home, not once, but twice.
The Toronto Star reports that in two separate cases a trolley shoe came loose from a streetcar at the Roncesvalles yard and was thrown through a window at nearby Copernicus Lodge.
A trolley shoe is a metal part that attaches the streetcar pole to the wire.
Luckily, no one was hurt.
A TTC spokesperson tells the Star that it happened while a streetcar moved over a curve in the tracks, that the pole lost contact with the wires and snagged.
They say they've been in constant contact with the seniors' home and are taking measures to make sure this doesn't happen again.
This system is a holdover from the old streetcars. The TTC is working on converting the network to use a new system that doesn't use these trolley shoes.
