If you're a regular user of the 97 Yonge bus line, you may have noticed a crunch of people riding the buses Saturday morning.
Thanks to repair work on the line 1 Yonge subway route, passengers were forced to use buses to get up and down on Yonge st.
TTC spokesperson Stuart Green confirmed to Newstalk1010 the Transit Commission tried a different way to shuttle passengers around over to the University line.
"What we were doing was running express buses across major routes like Wilson, Lawrence, Eglinton and Sheppard to get people to the other side of Line One. What we experienced today was that a number of people weren't taking advantage of that express service and were instead staying on Yonge street."
Green adds more buses were eventually deployed to Yonge street to offset the crush, doubling the normal total up to 50, but hopes passengers will use the better way the smarter way to get around during track work this weekend.
"We're still encouraging people to take advantage of those express buses that will get them over to the other side of line 1, particularly tonight if people are heading to the Leaf game."
Some people seemingly were caught off guard by the Subway line repairs and how buses would be placed into service this weekend, but Green points out the information to riders was made available through social media and e-mails as early as Tuesday.
"We had a news release that went out, we updated all the information on our website, we had a number of tweets that started going out on Thursday from both customer service and our transit control centre, so we were trying to alert people as best as we could."
Green adds be forewarned. This weekend's track service is among the 20 the TTC will perform this year.
