In a statement, Sandals, the MPP for Guelph, says that as of the 2018 election, she will have served 30 years in elected office and has, "made the difficult decision to retire."
Matthews is the MPP for London North Centre and Deputy Premier.
She released a statement saying, "the time has come for me to step aside."
Matthews says she, "will continue to find ways to engage in public service," and will serve as co-chair of the election campaign.
Economic development minister Brad Duguid has also recently announced he will be leaving politics, as will Speaker Dave Levac. Former environment minister Glen Murray recently left Queen's Park. Monte Kwinter, Ontario's oldest MPP, is also retiring from politics.
