Toronto Police have announced first-degree murder charges against a man and woman - both from Toronto - in the death of a 21-year-old woman at Spadina and Bloor Wednesday afternoon.
Investigators say Saria Lopez Iglesias, 26, and David Obregon Castro, 25, were arrested on Friday, after Abbegail Elliot was found with obvious signs of trauma inside one of the apartments at 70 Spadina Road.
The original call was for the sound of gunshots, although it's not known if a shooting actually took place.
Police say Castro faces additional charges of attempted murder, possession of prohibited or restricted firearm and unauthorized possession of a firearm in connection to a shooting on May 11 near Eglinton Ave. West and Richardson Ave.
The relationship between the two accused and the victim remains unclear, says Toronto Police spokesperson Katrina Arrogante.
"The investigation is still ongoing," she told NEWSTALK1010. "I know that homicide has this case still open."
Arrogante adds that there may be video surveillance of a fight that occurred two days before Elliot was killed - on Victoria Day Monday - between her and the suspects in the exact same location.
"If anyone has any information with regards to that, or even any information that can help the investigation, to kindly contact police," she said.
Both men made court appearances at Old City Hall court Saturday morning.
This marks the city's 32nd homicide of the year.
