Two seperate vehicle collisions in the GTA overnight have claimed two lives.
The first occurred in Oakville at around 8:15 Friday night when a pickup lost control and veered into a ditch on Bronte Road and Lower Base line.
According to Halton Police, an off duty nurse stopped at the scene of the accident and performed CPR on the 50-year-old victim, who was then rushed to hospital but later died of his injuries.
The cause of the accicent has not been released.
In Downsview, a two-car collison early Saturday morning left one person dead.
"Callers reported hearing a loud bang." That's how Const. Allyson Douglas-Cook described to NEWSTALK 1010 the flood of calls received by Toronto Police following the collision.
The crash occurred on Sheppard Avenue and Sunfield Road, west of Keele street just after 3 a.m.
According to Douglas-Cook, the impact forced one the vehicles to slam into a bus shelter, seriously injuring the driver.
"At the time he was found without vital signs. Unfortunately he has since succomb to his injuries in hospital."
The driver of the second vehicle was questioned by police on scene.
There is no confirmation of that driver faces any charges.
Accident reconstruction teams are on scene.
The area around the accident scene, including Sentinel Road and eastbound Sheppard Avenue West at Sunfield Road, remain closed for the investigation.
