One of Canada's richest families has donated 100-million dollars to the University of Toronto -- a donation the school says is the largest in its history.
The university says the gift from Heather Resiman and Gerald Schwartz will help build a new innovation complex that will include a new institute to explore artificial intelligence and its related societal and ethical implications.
The couple says the donation will spark innovation and anchor talent in Canada.
University President Meric Gertler says the donation will allow for deeper examination of how technology shapes people's lives.
The school says the complex will become a hub for university and private firms to work on all aspects of A-I research.
Construction is set to begin in the fall.
