There is talk in Toronto of of Uber drivers forming a union.
The United Food and Commercial Workers say they've been approached by 'hundreds' of drivers asking to sign up.
Officials with the union say talks are ongoing not only to bring in more potential members, but also to lay out the terms of how the union would advocate on their behalf.
The UFCW says the drivers have not officially certified as a union and could not provide a timeline of when that might happen.
Many drivers who are prepared to join the union complain they're not able to make ends meet as they work for less than Ontario's $14 minimum wage, once the cost of driving is factored in.
While the union says it is prepared to fight for a living wage for Uber drivers, officials did not get specific about what they believe that wage should be.
The UFCW also wants to press Uber to give drivers the right to paid vacation days, as well as paid sick days.
Organizing drives in cities in the United States have had not gained much traction, although a group representing Uber drivers successfully lobbied the New York City council to mandate a $17 minimum wage for ride-for-hire operators.
Some 70-thousand operator permits are registered with Toronto city hall.
