The Canadian National Exhibition opens this Friday and the union representing locked out stage and technical workers is warning of possible problems ahead of opening day.
"If the lockout continues when the CNE opens, there will likely be traffic chaos in the west end as there will be pickets in front of all CNE car entrances every day," says a release from IATSE Local 58.
Hundreds of employees who set up lighting, sound, and staging for events at venues on the grounds of Exhibition Place have been locked out since last month.
The union president refused to tell Moore in the Morning how long people going to the CNE might be delayed if the labour disruption continues.
IATSE Local 58 will demonstrate in Nathan Phillips Square on Monday to call on Mayor John Tory to return to the bargain table to try and hammer out the issues before the CNE begins.
The chair of the Exhibition Place board told NEWSTALK 1010 last week the city is open to resuming talks but there are some issues the union refuses to discuss.
The city takes issue with rules that force them to pay multiple hours of work even for quick jobs and premium pay on Sundays.
A big issue for the union is the plan to bring in outside workers to execute shows at Exhibition Place.
The affected venues include BMO Field, the Queen Elizabeth Theatre, Enercare Centre, Liberty Grand and Coca-Cola Coliseum.
