A three-year-old was rushed to hospital, after being struck by a pickup truck at the intersection of Dundas and George early Monday morning.
The incident occured around 10:30, the same day police had launched a road safety blitz aimed at protecting pedestrians.
The good news is that the boy is expected to make a full recovery.
Constable Clint Stibbe with Toronto Police says the Ford F-150 was making a left hand turn from George onto Dundas when it struck the boy.
The incident happened on a pedestrian crosswalk, equipped with flashing lights and signage.
Police are checking to see if those were functioning properly.
When reached by NEWSTALK 1010, Toronto Mayor John Tory said the following in a statement:
“It is so sad to hear that a 3-year-old was struck by a vehicle today on our roads.
Today’s collision is a reminder of exactly why we’re working so hard to make our streets safer for everyone, especially our young children. Drivers need to take extra care as they move around the city - that was the message we were delivering this morning in Scarborough hours before this collision downtown. I know no driver wants to be responsible for hurting anyone. I hope the message of the current police enforcement campaign, ‘Slow Down, Toronto,’ is heard loud and clear by all drivers.”
