It appears Toronto's latest homicide victim was targeted.
In a media briefing Saturday afternoon,Toronto Police detective Jeffrey Tavares confirmed that the male victim shot dead in Regent Park early Saturday was likely known to the suspect, who approached him as he stood with others. "From what we have been able to gather so far, the offender is walking towards the group with some sort of purpose. so that would make me believe it wasn't a random act."
The victim has been confirmed as a 54 year old male. The shooting, which left another male injured, happened around 1:30 a.m. in the Gerrrard Street East and River Street area.
But Police are not releasing any details about the suspects sought. Hopeful people who were at the gathering or in the area at the time of the shooting will step forward.
"The residents in the community have been very good with regards to helping us out and giving us investigative leads."
Anyone with information is asked to call police at 51 Division or Crime Stoppers.
