Toronto Police say the investigation into the case of a child receiving severe burns is now complete, and it was simply "a terrible accident."
Investigators say it initially came in as a medical call from an apartment building on Teesdale Avenue in Scarborough, near Danforth and Pharmacy, at about 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
When the ambulance arrived at the scene, first responders found the child's clothes were on fire and called for police to assist.
The child suffered burns to 18 per cent of their body and was rushed to hospital.
Constable David Hopkinson told NEWSTALK1010 on Saturday that police were investigating if anything suspicious took place.
Because of the nature of the incident, police say they will not be revealing the child's age.
Despite the severity of the burns, the child is expected to make a full recovery
Hopkinson said this is a cautionary tale, especially during the holiday season, when many people use candles in their homes - and that you should never leave candles or anything that could catch fire unattended.
