Toronto firefighters had to battle flames at a scrapyard in the city’s west end.
Capt. David Eckerman, public information officer for Toronto Fire Services, said the fire department received several calls about heavy black smoke in the area of Weston Road and Keele Street around 7:55 a.m. Sunday.
When fire crews arrived, they encountered guard dogs at Stark Auto on Union Street.
Toronto Animal Services was called to deal with the dogs, he said.
District Fire Chief Paul McCrossin tells CP24, " The cause of the fire hasn't been determined.... there's a good chance maybe an electrical issue in one of the vehicles that was damaged that just sat there and smouldered over a period of time and finally ignited."
The fire spread to as many as 12 cars but there was no threat to public safety and no threat of exposure to toxic fumes, said McCrossin.
The owner has since been located.
No injuries have been reported.
