One person has died in a fire at a seniors' building in Brampton.
Peel police say the victim is a 71-year-old man.
Flames broke out at 53 McHardy Place, near Main Street and Queen Street West, just after 6 a.m. Sunday.
Brampton Fire Platoon Chief Paul Bebbington told CP24 at the scene that the fire broke out inside a unit on the fourth floor of the building.
"It was confined to the bedroom of the unit. One patient was located and removed from the building,” he said, adding that the person was rushed to hospital without vital signs and was later pronounced dead.
Bebbington says one person was also taken to hospital after slipping and falling.
And a firefigher has minor injuries to his hand.
The buidling had to be evacuated, but residents on the first three floors have been allowed back in.
The fourth floor remains closed off but people who live on the floor have been allowed to go into their units and collect some belongings.
Some of them are staying at a nearby community centre.
The cause of the fire hasn't been determined.
