It took a while, about 5 hours longer than the OPP had anticipated, but just after 10:35 Monday night, the eastbound express lanes of highway 401 from Islington to Weston finally reopened.
Roughly 11 hours after a multi vehicle collision involving cars and transport trucks brought that stretch of the highway to a crawl.
OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt told CP 24 Monday night it appears one of the transport trucks may be to blame.
"It looks like the collision all started when a transport truck came into the end of slowing traffic and triggered this multi vehicle collision just devestating some of the vehicles."
Four people were injured, two seriously in the crash which closed the eastbound express lanes at Islington for most of the afternoon and evening.
According to the OPP, the crash involved two transport trucks, a cube van and multiple smaller vehicles.
