Environment Canada has issued a special air quality statement for Toronto calling for possible high levels of air pollution expected today.
That's on top of a heat warning that was issued for the city of Toronto and most of the GTA Saturday as a southwesterly flow of hot, humid air moves into Southern Ontario.
Environment Canada says daytime highs are expected to reach 32 C or higher Sunday and Monday. In Toronto, specifically, we're expected to see a high of 33 C on Sunday.
A special weather statement is also in place for most of Southern Ontario, including parts of cottage country.
The following areas are under the heat warning:
Outside of the GTA:
The warm temperatures combined with humidex values near 40 means anyone who is vulnerable - including young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors - should stay well-hydrated and in a shaded or air-conditioned area.
A cold front is expected to move through Monday night, putting an end to the heat and humidity.
On Ward's Island? Stay out of the water!
If you're planning on heading to the beach to beat the heat, a heads up: Wards Island beach is currently not suitable for swimming due to E. Coli levels that are currently above the safety limit.
However, all of the city's other beaches are deemed safe, including the others on Toronto Island.
Water levels at Toronto's beaches are tested on a daily basis.
