Delegates attending the final day of the national Conservative convention in Halifax have listened to the leader of Alberta's United Conservative Party rail against both the federal and BC government's energy policies.
Former Tory MP Jason Kenney lashed out at Justin Trudeau and Premier John Horgan's NDP government.
He accused Trudeau of accepting the cancellation of the Keystone XL pipeline project by the US, and slammed Horgan's opposition to the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion from Alberta to BC.
Kenney says current federal policy is hindering his province's attempts to export its oil to world and domestic markets.
Meantime, Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer reiterated his pledge not to reopen the abortion debate, hours before party members voted to uphold the existing policy.
One of 74 resolutions debated Friday at the convention proposed removing any reference to regulating abortion, but was narrowly defeated on Saturday.
The party policy currently says a Conservative government would not support any legislation to regulate abortion.
In an interview with The Canadian Press, Scheer said he would not bring in any legislation to reopen divisive issues like abortion, even if a majority of members had voted in favour of the resolution.
He said he welcomes open debate and discussion within the membership, but will remain ``unequivocal'' in his stance that he will not entertain divisive social issues, including the abortion debate.
Instead, he says he hopes to work with party members on issues they can all agree upon.
Throughout the meetings, Scheer has been working to get past the rebellion of former party member Maxime Bernier, and position himself as an everyman Canadian who is more worthy to be prime minister than Justin Trudeau.
Scheer has promised to stand up to U-S President Donald Trump when it comes to trade.
He drew cheers from the crowd when he said Canada needs to compete with other countries on issues like taxation.
Scheer also spoke about his personal life and humble beginnings as opposed to Trudeau's wealthy upbringing.
