A house fire in Aurora overnight was brought under control quickly, but once fire fighters got inside, they made a gruesome discovery.
The fire started at a home on Edward Street, near Yonge south of Wellington, at around 1 a.m.
The fire was put out within an hour, but as fire crews searched the home, they found the lifeless body of a person, whose identity and gender have yet to be determined.
York Regional Police Const. Andy Pattenden spoke to our media partner CP24.
"We do believe that it is an adult. We are appealing to any witnesses who may have been in this area, who may have seen anything."
What police do know according to Pattenden, is that the death was not accidental.
"It was actually the coroner who made that determination that the death in this case does appear to be suspicious."
That has prompted the Homicide unit to take over the investigation.
The area around Edward Street was closed for several hours for the investigation, but has since been re-opened to traffic.
