A four-month-old girl is in hospital fighting for her life after some sort of assault in Toronto's west end.
Toronto Police const. David Hopkinson could not say how the infant sustained critical injuries before they were called to the lobby of a a condominium tower near Sherway Gardens mall on Wednesday morning.
Police initially reported that the girl had been stabbed.
"We have indications that if the baby was stabbed, those are not the injuries that are causing such serious, serious injuries," Hopksinson told NEWSTALK 1010 Wednesday afternoon.
Police have said the baby was unconscious at the scene but that there were signs that she was breathing on the way to hospital.
Hopkinson says a man was stabbed and otherwise assaulted and treated at the scene. A woman now in police custody was also injured but Hopkinson could not say as a result of what. Her injuries are considered to be serious but not life-threatening.
Police have not commented on the relationship between the woman or the injured man or infant.
