Four people injured after a shooting at a community gathering in Pickering have been identified.
The shooting at a Ribfest in Pickering Saturday night sent the four to hospital with non life threatening injuries.
Durham Regional Police Staff Sgt. Paul Cummins said thousands of people had gathered for the annual Ribfest event in Pickering's esplanade area when the gunfire erupted around 11 p.m.
Sunday Durham Regional Police released some details about the four victims. They range in age from 16-30. 2 are from the Ajax area, one from Pickering and the other from North York.
The suspect information is sketchy at best. One is described as a male black, who was wearing dark clothing.
Police believe that the shooting was not random.
Pickering mayor Dave Ryan praised the work of local law enforcement for keeping those injured to a minimum.
"The DRPS(Durham Regional Police Service) are crediting the robust security that we have here at this event for keeping that outside and not inside so I'm very very pleased with that."
Ryan also acknowledged that the gun play in his city is a byproduct of a growing trend across the GTA.
"We are shocked and surprised as well. We are not imune obviously, but we continue to be strong and confident in the safety of our community as a whole."
The event was back up and running Sunday, scheduled to finish at 8 p.m.
