We were warned and old man winter didn't disappoint. The GTA's first official snow storm that began late Monday afternoon is expected to keep coming through the night.
According to Environment Canada's Kelly Hobelman, 5 cms fell in around the GTA through the afternoon and evening commute. There was a brief break in the snowfall, but more is on the way.
"We do expect the intensity of this snowfall to increase thorugh the evening and continue overnight. And with that snow we can expect at least probably an additional 5cms of snow before the morning rush hour."
Hobelman adds that will make the Tuesday morning commute a messy one and there could be another sprinkling of the white stuff later on in the morning.
" We do expect the intensity of the snowfall to decrease but we could see flurries throughout the day and a couple of more cms are possible through the day tomorrow."
The first significant snowfall of the season also caused some damage on the roads. Toronto Police reported at least 20 crashes directly attributed to the weather.
According to Const. Allyson Douglas-Cook, the snow played no favourites throughout the city.
" It was just various areas throughout the city that we saw the various reports of collisions and just even hazards where there were reports of slick road ways and vehicles basically sliding down inclines and such."
Douglas-Cook added there were also reports of a couple of pedestrians struck, with only minor injuries.
"Thankfully with none of the reports that I saw there were no serious injuries in any of them."
