A 96-year-old woman is in good health, albeit shaken up, after the car she was inside was stolen from a plaza in Mississauga Saturday afternoon.
Just before 2 p.m., the woman's family had quickly stepped inside a Shoppers Drug Mart at Applewood Plaza, near the QEW and Cawthra, leaving her and the family dog inside the family's Toyota Sienna van.
Peel Regional Police told NEWSTALK1010 the vehicle was left idling when the suspect jumped into the van and began driving, with the woman sitting in the passenger's seat and dog still inside.
According to a release, police say the woman was driven to a bank where the suspect used her debit card to make several cash withdrawals.
Just over an hour later, he abandoned the woman and the vehicle in Oakville, at 530 Kerr Street near Speers Road.
Peel Police say Nicholas Forbes, 30, has been charged with kidnapping, breach of probation and two counts of robbery. He was arrested a short distance away from where the car was abandoned. Forbes, of no fixed address, made a court appearance Sunday morning.
The woman has since been reunited with her family. She was not injured.
