Toronto Homicide investigators have taken over the case of a stabbing in Scarborough Saturday morning.
Police responded to a call for a stabbing at about 7:45 a.m. in a Toronto Community Housing building near Gordonridge Place and Danforth Road.
They say paramedics and officers arrived on scene and tried to help the victim.
Gary Long, a spokesman for Toronto police, says the man died of his injuries on the scene.
Saturday afternoon Homicide detectives arrived on scene to continue the investigation. Detective Sgt. Kevin Leahy confirmed the death, but didn't offer too many details except the identity of the victim was not known.
"They attended and found a male vsa(vital signs absent) at the time. He was pronounced on scene. At the moment we're still working to identify the victim and notify next of kin. "
As for a description of the suspect sought, "Male black, six foot to six foot one, slim build with a slight goatee. He was possibly wearing a dark blue jacket, grey track pants and a grey sweatshirt and hoody."
The heavy police presence at the housing complex appeared to catch residents and media off guard, Leahy was repeatedly asked about it. His response to the police response.
"Because somebody has been murdered and stabbed."
Also clearly visible to those around the scene, police going into the building with C18 riffles, standard issue for some Toronto police officers.
"Well I know the standard issue for police officers in some of their vehicles are the C18's and I expect that officers with C18's probably responded to the call."
Leahy added the ongoing ivestigation would likely carry through the rest of Saturday and possibly into Sunday.
